Interviewed by Jennifer Koplow
We welcome Dom Moorhouse, a Board Member at Perpetual and Co-Founder at Method Grid who discusses the importance of creating meaningful, team-driven values through retreats. He emphasizes embedding these values into the company culture to foster high-performing, value-aligned teams, ensuring the values remain relevant and impactful over time.
In the quest for high-performing teams, corporate values often play a pivotal role. Dom Moorhouse, a board member at Perpetual and the Co-Founder of Method Grid, recently shared his insights on how to develop and sustain meaningful corporate values. Through retreats and open discussions, Perpetual has embedded these values deeply into our culture, creating a lasting impact on our team dynamics.
Dom highlights the significance of retreats in crafting corporate values. Eight years ago, Perpetual organized a retreat in a beautiful location, away from the daily grind, allowing team members to freely collaborate and think creatively. This setting facilitated open-minded discussions, leading to the creation of values that genuinely resonated with the entire team.
The process began with an in-depth exploration of what mattered most to the team. We didn’t rush the process; instead, we took our time to deliberate on the essence of values that would drive our behavior and culture. We focused on identifying values that were not just generic attributes but meaningful concepts that the team could embody in our daily work.
One of the key takeaways is the importance of integrating these values into everyday practices. At Perpetual, we regularly reference our values in meetings and recognize team members who exemplify them. This constant reinforcement ensures that the values are not just words on a wall but lived experiences that guide the team’s actions.
Moreover, it cannot be emphasized enough the importance of making the values relevant to both existing team members and new recruits. By clearly articulating our values during the hiring process, Perpetual ensures that new team members are aligned with our culture from the outset. This alignment helps in building a cohesive team that shares the same vision and principles.
Dom’s insights underline the importance of creating and maintaining meaningful corporate values. Through thoughtful retreats, open discussions, and continuous reinforcement, companies can embed these values into their culture, fostering high-performing, value-aligned teams that drive long-term success.
We hope you enjoy our podcast with Dom.
